The Super Bowl
The Super Bowl , does it tell you something? You should have at least heard this word somewhere. The Super Bowl does not represent anything for us French, but here in the US…. it’s the athletic event if the year!!! This is the final of the American football championship, organized by the National Football League, where the two winning teams of the selection matches compete against each other. This match takes place every year on the first Sunday of February. This event gathers very different kind of person: the sport addicts, the fans of Justin Timberlake and those you come for the American culinary delights. However, it is an excuse to meet with your friends and have fun. Within my American university, the Illinois State University, a special event has been organized for international students, which allowed me to watch the Super Bowl with my friends. This year we had the Philadelphia Eagles against the New England Patriots.
Bets were divided some students wanted to see the Eagles won, as the Patriots already got 5 victories, others wanted to stay faithful to the Patriots. All football fans will mention you the name of Rob Gronkowski and of Tom Brady two great players from the Patriots, but to be honest I could not talk in depth about this subject as I don’t know much about it. I have understood the game only 10 min before the end: each team alternates defense and attack, the goal being to throw the ball to the other end of the field. The winners of this year are the Eagles, who have won their first Super Bowl game. For the rest, you should ask someone else more specialist than me. The most interesting part of this event, is the food and the half-time show. We had this year a really nice performance from Justin Timberlake. The resources deployed were quite impressive considering that the show was relatively short (15-20 min). Just as impressive, the quantity of food available! Here are some examples to give you an idea of the American cuisine: chicken wings, French fries, crackers with different sauces, raw vegetables with ranch sauce, cupcakes, brownies… I had thus the chance to arrive in the right semester to see this typical event of American culture. I hope that you liked this small overview of my life in the US. See you soon :)
