What do we drink in Chile ?
The true question is not whether you can drink tap water or not (answer: in Santiago at least, yes), but rather: is there any special alcoholic drink (or not, we are not all winos) in Chile? Yes, of course yes! And I even sacrificed myself to test everything for you… (I will not write a word about wine, beer or maté in this article, I’ll keep that for a future article, depending on my motivation and my knowledge on the subject).
#1 The Pisco Sour
THE cocktail. I will spare you the debate “this is Peruvian/ no it’s Chilean”, I have no idea who is right and that is not the aim of this article. The important thing here is that you can drink it. So, what is pisco first? This is a kind of grape brandy reaching approximately 40° which is the Chilean counterpart of rum and whisky (piscola = pisco + Coca-Cola). And now I present to you the recipe of the Pisco Sour cocktail, delicious but a bit treacherous.
#2 The Mote con Huesillo
Literally translated by « wheat with dried peach”, this non-alcoholic beverage sounds quite exotic. You can find it everywhere, in ferias (street markets) or even just in street shops. It's very sweet, very tasty but a "chico" (small) glass is clearly enough !
Be carefull, excessive drinking is dangerous for the health
Salud y saludos !
